Types of Maang Tikka

August 23, 2017
Sirmaang or the single strand maang tikka, is a simple jewellery that has a chain that is placed on the parting of the hair and a pendant that gracefully sits the bride's forehead.

There is a versatile variety of these elegant adornments to choose from.

The Simple Tikka
A popular choice with most brides and non-brides, as it is a piece which is versatile and can be for other formal occasions too. Usually, it is a floral, peacock motif or a tear drop shape pendant, with Polki, Kundan, precious/semi-precious gem stones or just pure gold.

The Chand Tikka
This is a chand, or moon motif tikka with Polki or Kundan and dangling pearls. A slight variation to this tikka is a crescent moon which is just as gorgeous.

Borla
This spherical but pretty tikka gets its name from the jujube fruit called ber or bor in Hindi.

Jhoomar
Although the Jhoomar is not the usual maang tikka worn at the center parting of the hair, it is a hot favourite among brides. Jhoomar is usually worn on the left side of the forehead near the temple. This tikka adds a royal appeal and comes in various designs, like fan shaped, triangular or circular in style.
