August 13, 2017
The Maang Tikka or Matha Patti (Maang Tikka is smaller version of the Matha Patti) is an integral part of an Indian bride’s solah shringar or 16 adornments which are worn to accentuate the beauty of the bride. The maang tikka and most other Indian jewellery are age-old Indian bridal traditions, derived from ancient Indian paintings and sculptures.

This ethnic piece of jewellery is made up of a single or multiple strings and a pendant. They can be small and simple or elaborate large pieces, decorated with precious, semi-precious gems and pearls.

Traditionally, the maang (the chain part) is placed along the center parting of the hair and the tikka (the pendant) dangles gracefully on the forehead. It is said that the pendant of the maang tikka sits on the anja chakra; a spot on the woman’s forehead tied to spirituality. Apart from adding beauty and glamour to the bride, this jewellery piece carries a great deal of religious significance.

The maang tikka is not just for brides but is the hottest trend in fashion these days, showing up on runways and with celebrities using it as fashion statements.

It comes in an assortment of designs hence can be worn along with different hairstyles and if used correctly can be used for western wear.
Wear it for formal occasions or cocktail parties to add splendour and a touch of regalness to your attire!
